Sober Riot Theatre creates bold stories that focus on young people struggling in a contemporary society. Made up of Elan Butler and Julia Bentley, graduates of East15’s BA Acting and Contemporary Theatre Course (CT), their passion lies in nurturing untold stories. Rooted from Birmingham and branched into London, the company tells stories from the Midlands to enable opportunity for an underrepresented community. Most recently, they have enjoyed sell out runs of Elan Butler’s debut play ‘FISHCAT’, at The Hope Theatre, with plans of a 2022 tour. They have recently performed ‘A Little Rain In Monaco’ at The Old Red Lion Theatre, receiving 5 star reviews by Jack The Lad Magazine.

Elan Butler, alumni of The Nottingham TV Workshop and National Youth Theatre, is an actor and writer. He was a Spotlight Prize finalist and recently played a major part in the sequel to Steven Spielberg’s Band of Brothers, along with ‘Funny Girl’ for Sky. He is currently part of Leicester Curves Playwriting course and Pentabus Writers.

Julia Bentley, Tom Bennett Comedy Award winner 2020, is alumni of The Birmingham Young REP, having performed with them at Madrid’s BE Festival. She recently collaborated with Strike Up Theatre in an R&D as a writer and performer and has received criminal justice arts practitioner training from ImagineIF Theatre. In February 2022 she performed a rehearsed-reading of Eco-Ball the play at The Wolverhampton Arena Theatre.
